July 11, 2022 - Bellflower City Council approves updated zoning and new programs to assist and encourage Artisan Manufacturing uses in Downtown Bellflower. Both a Small Business Microloan Program and a Artisan Manufacturing Rental Assistance Program were approved. For more information drop us a line at Economic_Dev@bellflower.org. Additional, significant zoning changes were approved for Downtown Bellflower, which included a land use definition for Artisan Manufacturing and permitting Artisan Manufacturing by right in the Downtown. As an ordinance, this action requires a second reading (August 8, 2022) and will go into effect 30 days after that.
June 1, 2022 - The two Bellflower entrepreneurial training programs through Asociacion Emprendedor@s and 37 Oaks are now accepting applications. Priority to these programs are given to Bellflower residents and businesses.
For in-person Spanish language entrepreneurs in Bellflower click Asociacion Emprendedor@as to apply. This is an 8-week program beginning on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 5 pm at Bellflower City Hall.
37 Oaks provides a program of 10 online courses (7 required courses and 3 elective courses) to get entrepreneurs prepared to open a brick and mortar store front or improve how they already operate their brick and mortar shops. Students have 12 months to complete the program. Click here to apply.
May 16, 2022 - The Bellflower Planning Commission approved an Artisan Manufacturing land use definition making it a permitted use in Downtown Bellflower. This action will soon go to City Council for final approval.
March 28, 2022 - The Bellflower City Council approved an agreement with Harbor Area Farmers' Markets (HAFM) to operate and relocate the existing Bellflower Farmers' Market from Simms Park to Town Center Plaza in Downtown Bellflower. The first day of the market at the new location is Monday, June 6, 2022 and it will be open weekly on Mondays from 3 pm to 7 pm (except for certain holidays). In addition to a wide selection of fresh produce, bread, and food vendors, the market will now include vendors selling various handcrafted specialty items. December 2021 - Bellflower City Council provided direction to staff regarding the programming and allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) - Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (CSLFR) and the general fund savings as a result of the City receiving ARPA-CSLFR funding. Over $200,000 per year for the next 3-years has been allocated for Small Business Development Programs. These programs include entrepreneurial training programs in English and Spanish, small business spotlight videos, a small business microloan program, and a downtown artisan manufacturing rental assistance program.
